Hockey Workouts - 3 Ultimate Core Training Exercises For Ice Hockey Players

Core training in hockey workouts is of the utmost importance. The core is responsible for a lot of things when you're on the ice, including generating power in your shots and hits, and stabilizing you when you skate, shoot, hit, get hit, or do just about anything else. A strong core makes for dominant ice hockey players, whereas a weak one is begging for injuries. Here are 3 of the best exercises you can do to train your core for top performance on the ice.

Reverse Crunch with Swiss Ball

This is a great exercise and very simply to do. The exercise ball is added to make the movement a little more difficult. You can do it without though if you find it too difficult to do with the ball. To perform this exercise, lie on your back and grip a Swiss ball between your fight and calves. Never let the ball touch the ground, hold it just above. Using your core, bring the ball up until your legs are straight above you and your hips are off of the ground.

Swiss Ball Push-up

Again, the Swiss ball is used to add instability which is why this exercise activates the core so effectively. In fact, any time you can add instability into your workout, it will always effectively work your core. To perform the Swiss ball push-up, simply place your hands on an exercise ball and perform a normal push-up movement like you would on the ground. You can also reverse this and place your feet on the ball. Both are great exercises and will rip up your core.

Wood-Chooper

To do this exercise, grab a dumbbell (or alternately use a medicine ball) and holding it with both hands, start with it raised above your left shoulder. Bring it down and across your body until it is beside your right hip (simulating an axe-swing across your body). Repeat until the set is finished and then switch sides and perform the same movement in reverse. This is a great exercise for your core and has huge benefits for shooting.

These three exercises will take you a long way if you add them into your normal routine, but they're only a few of the many great core exercises you can do to increase your on-ice performance. Plyometric Exercises For Ice Hockey Players - 3 Great Exercises to Improve Your Speed and Power

Plyometric exercises are one of the top ways that ice hockey players can improve their speed and power on the ice while in the gym. Plyometrics focuses on jumping and bounding explosively, and is one of incredible value to hockey players. Despite the fact you don't need any special equipment to do plyometrics, many players ignore it. Here are three great exercises you can do at home or in the gym to make you faster and more explosive on the ice.

Squat Jumps:

Squat jumps are probably one of the simplest types of plyometrics exercise, and you can do them almost anywhere. To perform a squat jump, simply lower your body into the position you'd be in for a normal squat, and then explode upward into a jump, raising your arms above your head. When you land, immediately lower yourself back down and repeat. The key is to not hold the squat position but to be constantly going up and down.

Tuck Jumps:

Tuck jumps are done by starting from a standing position and jumping into the air and tucking your knees up to your chest. Land on the balls of your feet and immediately spring back up again. Once again, the goal is constant, explosive movement. Try and land softly and use the energy you store from landing to help you push back into the air. Keep your feet on the ground for as little time as possible.

Box Drill with Rings:

The box drill is a great one because it has you jumping back, forth and side to side. For this one, set up four rings (or any kinds of markets) in a box pattern. Stand in the first ring (or on the first marker) and with your feet kept together, jump from one market to another, never stopping in between, until you've completed the entire box. Once again, never keep your feet on the ground.

Doing these plyometric exercises will help greatly increase your foot speed and the explosive power of your muscles. The results you'll see on the ice will be noticeable. To check out an more plyometrics exercises specifically designed for hockey, go to www.tophockeytraining.com and get Hockey Speed and Power by Kevin Miehm. Speed Training Drills For Ice Hockey Players - How to Get Faster and Stay Faster

Speed training drills are often times not incorporated into hockey practices. There will always be skating drills, but speed is often something simply attributed to nature. The thinking goes that any player who isn't naturally fast, probably won't ever be. This is completely wrong. Like anything in sport and fitness, speed can be improved through proper training and practice. Here are some tips to help in that improvement.

Firstly, form is of great importance to speed, and a lot of players don't skate at their maximum speed purely because of bad form. If form has been identified as a problem, it's time to hit the power skating classes. No one is too old for power skating if their stride is in need of some tweaking. The simple corrections to minor imperfections in a player's stride can have huge impacts.

Secondly, watch how the pros do it. In the NHL skills competition, the fastest skater competition tends to feature some of the same faces each year. One thing you'll notice if you watch them is they all have a similar strategy. They'll start off with very short, powerful strides to get them up to speed as fast as possible, but once they've reached speed, they stop taking the short, bursting strides, and transfer into longer, smoother ones. This is something many players ignore, instead opting to keep their feet moving as fast as possible, as if they were running on the ice. This is a mistake. Start your strides short, get up to speed, and then maintain the speed by smoothing and lengthening your stride.

Following these tips will help improve your skating, but remember, a big part of speed is your physical fitness level. You need to also be training off the ice for speed and power. Consult a trainer or invest in a good book on hockey specific fitness programs. Go to www.tophockeytraining.com and check out Hockey Speed and Power by Kevin Miehm. Written by an ex-NHL player and career pro, this hockey training manual provides a complete hockey fitness program designed to take hockey players to their maximum potential.

8 more common mistakes made by new Hockey players

Although this post focused on helping debutants, a band of players make it sticking to the same mistakes. I would like to pretend I don't I was guilty of offenses, but expect to just say it doesn't hurt to have a friend rappel.

Hard

Players who are used to need a puck in the end they have a tendency to look down to make sure it is still there. While important, stick-Des are always second to remove the ice pick. Que, the ice pick still etre plus deplacement and most maneuverable objet on ice. If a player sont constantly check on the steep slopes of the almost happened in his hand: the other side, a play and he became can enquete stage. It can avoid the defenders, open ekipye, and indices of guardian: a player who can establish four will be a better profit to his team than someone who can quickly, and achieve patinage toe fantaisie fait.

Donner Une Route by

New acteurs sont lies adversaire good for a no in some point, what's going on. Real problems when defender at the back, top and beat. Ekipye tend to have more knowledge if a solid effort to retrieve the puck after they lost: it may take time for a player to develop speed and virage, but it can show hustle of a day. Many times a player pay hors persistance, and get back the possession of the puck. added in ition, a sense of personal fierte feel when a player is able to echanger.

Holding the stick is outside of the

One of the basic amentals Valley branches of Hockey on ice. When these there may be more likely to receive, rapide sont plans easier to accomplish, and playing defense are more likely to intercept the puck. Hockey is a sport where rapide rythme second numbered. Sometimes when he had taken to bring wood from the knees of the ice-is enough to mark an opportunity. An army on the Ice-Hockey also helps keep joueurs faible and maintain surgeon's Cap position.

Comment place

Each player on a team have a responsable and ekipye need to be able to count on one another. Part of cours serious, in which time the respondent, sometimes just put a body on a adversaire you Sur rod is enough to keep it all in a Tyre to Score when opportunity objectives of tents in front of goal. two of his aide best had given the courtesy radio guardian, one of the best ways who played a help ekipye it is still an option passant.

A four to ensure they married

This is not necessary to wait to admire a good than you look nervously to see if an economic than connects. Most Eastern do patinage many laws when they don't have the ice pick, so cutting an area open is often a good choice after dishing the puck. Don't forget, when passing to a player who is deplacer, be sure to take them. To where it will be, not where it is in the people.

Turning the offense

In most circumstances this is not natural to counter something flying droit us but this is called Hockey. Shinguards and a cup of portes sont Avant de body to protect the players turned to an injection, leaving veaux and thigh vulnerables to abuse. More importantly, their eyes from the game. In Paris the best is to counter the shooter and took a puck to shins you block it with his rod: A bouncing puck from the surface will etre more, and often results in a easy turn on.

Take steep too far from the body

Players still being phased Rod Des competences can prevent the ice pick was stolen. Keep the body between the puck and the defender is a great way to keep possession. No use in the body as a defender will protect a etre one out not a voler ... Many of the rookies this is steep a few feet from the body, made it not easy for a defender to slap. The only thing was a defender should be allowed to see is on the back of the jersey. And don't forget contact body, not too bad!

Top front of the goal of clearing house

A player must never economic top by two goals by him is the tendency of some debutants to get nervous and economic topic do not even look and see people going by, they may think it's better than the alternative, but often a member of team opposition is the center of ice by two objectives, is ready to take the puck. A help for other team worst turned back on.
